I haven't tried it yet, but I hope to soon!

Originally posted by Jess the Mess:

Blend equal parts dry oatmeal, dried goat's milk (I got mine at the local health foods store as my TJ didn't carry it), and flax seeds. Put in a jar with a lid.

Put a small amount of raw honey (regular honey was called for in the book but all my mom's friends had better experience with the raw) in a small container ex: an empty lip gloss pot w/lid.

Put VitaminE oil (the recipe calls for EVOO but I hate the smell and I needed the healing of the VitaminE) in an oil container with a stopper. I found mine for cheap at Ross.

Buy Rosewater in a spray bottle. They have it at TJ and Whole Foods.

Now you are ready...

Put on a headband so you don't get food in your hair.

Put a scoop of the dry mixture in your palm. Add a little water to make a wet paste. Apply all over your face and let it sit for about 5 minutes or until it feels like it has tightened up. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat dry.

Spritz face with rosewater.

Put a tiny amount of honey (about a fingertip) in your palm, spray it with rosewater and rub in your palms to "melt" it. Apply all over your face.

Spritz again with rosewater.

Put tiny dabs of oil on your face (about 3 or 4) and rub in all over to moisturize.

After that I spritz again but you don't have to. It does feel oily for a few minutes but it "sinks" in. I do the whole routine once a day and do a quick wash with the dry mix if I feel like I need to wash my face again. I know it sounds like a lot of work but it goes so fast and considering all the scrunching, plopping, etc. we do to our hair, it's easy to work the face routine in. Just try it. You probably have most of the ingredients at home already. It has changed my life. I'll try to update with a pic of the stuff in jars on my counter. Hopefully some of you will love this as much as I do. Oh and sorry this post was so long. I have debated on wether to post this because of the length but It's official...I HAD to share my new love.

To see the original post & discussion, go here.

Curly Recipes To Try!

I found summy yummy recipes for hair masques and whatnot while looking on the NaturallyCurly.com forum! If I don't put them here now, I'll never be able to find them again. Haha!

FeedYourHead:
My new love is a banana hair mask recipe I got from a book called Naturally Healthy Hair:

One mashed banana (I pureed a slightly overripe banana in the blender)
One tablespoon honey
One teaspoon almond oil (I substituted EVOO and it worked just fine!)

Mix together, work through hair, leave on for 15-30 minutes, then rinse out.

This is a moisturizing mask that left my hair feeling really soft.

Ryanne:
My recipe was one banana, 2 ts honey, 1 ts olive oil, and two conditioners, I left it when I went to bed, and it felt really soft eventhough it took long to remove all the banana bits.

HighlyAddictive:
Hi ladies! I've been using honey and olive oil for a few weeks now with much success. I have really dry 3c hair, and this makes my hair soft and clumpy and shiny immediately! And the softness lasts for a while too.

So here is the recipe:
Honey & EVOO mix

* 1/4 cup EVOO
* 3 tsp Honey
* warm honey, then mix with olive oil.
* Apply for 30min under plastic baggy, then rinse. My hair sucked it up!!!! Very soft and shiny. Clumped well and is very defined.

I use those little 3oz airline bottles to mix my honey and evoo in. I just mix them and take it in the shower with me. While I co-wash, I let the little bottle sit inside of a cup of hot water (to loosen the honey) and then just shake the bottle to mix it before applying. I apply after I co-wash, put on one of those cheap plastic shower caps, do my business in the shower, and then rinse when I'm done bathing. That usually gives it enough time and heat to 'deep condition'. Sometimes I'll leave it on longer and just rinse after I'm out of the shower.

You may want to tweak the amount of olive oil you use if you're hair is thinner/finer or you're worried about having oily hair. My hair is super thick and always dry, so this recipe works for me really well for me.

HTH! Good luck!

Mariag002:
My favorite is the honey and evoo recipe. I use a little more olive oil and honey because I have thick hair. I got this from Motowngirl.com's website:

Honey/Olive Oil Conditioner
3 teaspoons of honey
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil

Directions: This mixture will help to make your hair softer and shinier. Heat the honey in the microwave for a few seconds and mix the ingredients in a bowl. Work a small amount at a time through hair until coated. Cover hair with a shower cap, leave on an hour. Remove shower cap, co-wash and rinse. Dry as normal.

When I do this on my hair not only is my hair very soft, my curls just pop. I love it and highly recommend it.

Aloe + Aloe = Aloe Aloe

My hair has been misbehaving very badly since my last post. Yes, every day since then. It really starting acting up when I first used Loreal Vive Nutrigloss and their Melting Gel... my hair really doesn't seem to like that combo. Actually, my hair doesn't seem to like any Loreal products for that matter. Anyone else have that problem? I hated it so much today after I co-washed, that I co-washed and re-did my hair again. However, I decided to do something different today after reading a post on naturallycurly.

I've experimented with FOTE AVG before, didn't like it, and so I gave up. It gave me soft curls and nice clumpage which I loved, but it didn't hold much and sometimes my hair seemed to be dryed out, maybe result of other products I was using, but still, I decided to cut it out. Today someone mentioned using it and mixing it with their conditioner (which happened to be Aloe & Waterlily). So I thought that putting Aloe and Aloe together would work well. That other person mentioned they used glycerin, so I decided to try that today too.

So what I did was I co-washed with Suave Aloe & Waterlily (which smells very yummy btw!), then I scrunched some in as leave in. Then, in my hand I mixed some of it with aloe vera gel and diluted glycerin (3 parts water to 1 part glycerin), mixed it together, and then I combed and worked it through my hair. Then, I scrunched in more aloe vera gel mixed with a little more conditioner. Immediately I noticed more clumping, and better curl formation. We'll see how it holds up as the day goes by. First I guess I should wait and see how it will dry. I'll report back with pictures later! Now I need to figure out how to clip my roots properly to get some needed volume!

ACV/Honey Rinse

I did my first ACV rinse today. I had an empty conditioner bottle that I poured my mix into. My recipe was 1 tablespoon of ACV mixed with 1 cup of water, plus a couple of drops of honey. I co-washed and conditioned first. After rinsing out my conditioner with water, I then poured the ACV over my hair. I made sure I got it good and saturated, but I didn't end up using all my mixture. Then I rinsed with water and scrunched in some leave-in conditioner with honey. Applied KY gelee followed by LA Looks Cashmere Curls and La Bella Super Spikes, and plopped for 20 minutes. Its still drying now.. and my hair feels soft, but its frizzy, with some crunchy spots. Maybe it will look better once it dries.

Also I uploaded pictures of my first co-wash. It was okay, but a little frizzy. Day 2 was worse so I didn't take any pics. My hair is frizzy today too. I'm mad about that. I actually went CG after my wedding (July 19) and stuck with it until this past Sunday. (September 14). It did great at first, but I guess too much product built up over time and it started getting weighed down and it looked bad. So I thought it would be okay to wash it with my Samy Pure Smooth & Shine Shampoo, because its supposed to be sulfate free... that was a mistake. Now its yicky! Should I stick with it, or shoulod I wash with a clarifying shampoo and start all over?

My Routine

My hair is recovering from a bad scene haircut, so I have to co-wash it everyday to get it to behave. I usually co-wash with a Suave conditioner, applying it even over my scalp/roots and massaging with my finger tips. I then rinse with warm water, still massaging to remove dirt. If my hair still feels yucky, then I use my CHI silk masque to co-wash again. This conditioner seems to remove small amounts of build up nicely; I haven't figured out why, because it doesnt have any kind of sulfate as an ingredient. Weird. Next, I usually use the same conditioner on my ends. Or I use a 1/2 and 1/2 mix of honey + conditioner. Either way, I leave it on while I finish my shower. I rinse it with cool/cold water. O squeeze out excess water and blot with a towel. I scrunch in a little conditioner and comb through. Then I apply KY gelee then the rest of my styling products. I either let my hair air dry or plop it for 10-15 minutes then air dry. When I take it down, sometimes I have to re-wet because my short layers stick out like crazy. But thats it. :]

Upcoming Reviews

# CHI Nourish Intense Silk Hair Masque
# L.A.
